9 Simple Ways to Practice More Self-Love

9 Simple Ways to Practice More Self-Love

Self-love isn't about believing you're perfect. And it doesn't have to look like bubble baths, affirmations or having everything figured out.

Sometimes self-love is much quieter.

It's setting a boundary. Giving yourself permission to rest. Speaking to yourself with more compassion. Choosing what you need—even when it isn't what everyone else wants from you.

Here are nine simple ways to practice it in everyday life.

1. Remember how far you've come

We have a way of remembering the things we wish we'd done differently while quickly moving past everything we've survived, accomplished and figured out.

Take a moment to remember your wins—the big ones and the quiet ones.

You are allowed to be proud of yourself.

2. Keep promises to yourself

Self-trust is built in small moments.

If you tell yourself you're going to rest, rest. If you decide a boundary matters, honor it. If something is important to you, make room for it.

You don't have to do this perfectly. Just practice becoming someone you can rely on.

3. Let yourself receive

You don't always have to be the giver, fixer, helper or strong one.

Let someone show up for you. Accept the compliment. Enjoy the beautiful thing. Take the help. Allow yourself to experience something good without immediately wondering what you need to give in return.

Receiving is a practice, too.

4. Forgive the version of you who didn't know yet

You've made mistakes. You've stayed too long, chosen wrong, ignored your intuition or simply done the best you could with what you knew at the time.

You can learn from those versions of yourself without spending the rest of your life punishing them.

Growth and grace can exist together.

5. Pay attention to what you actually need

Not what looks productive. Not what everyone else expects. Not what you think you should need.

Ask yourself:

What would support me right now?

Sometimes the answer is action. Sometimes it's rest. Sometimes it's a conversation, a boundary, some distance or five uninterrupted minutes to yourself.

Listen.

6. Care for your body without making it a punishment

Move because it feels good. Eat in ways that support you. Sleep when you're tired. Make the appointment you've been putting off.

Your body doesn't have to earn care by looking a certain way.

Care for it because it carries you.

7. Stop editing the parts of you that make you you

Your sensitivity. Your ambition. Your softness. Your intensity. Your weird little interests. Your laugh. Your boundaries. Your dreams.

Not everything about you needs to be made more palatable.

There is freedom in allowing yourself to be fully yourself.

8. Notice what's already good

Gratitude doesn't mean pretending everything is wonderful.

It means allowing yourself to notice what is good while acknowledging what isn't.

A peaceful morning. Someone who loves you well. Something you're proud of. A moment that made you laugh.

Let the good count, too.

9. Speak to yourself like someone you love

Pay attention to the voice you use with yourself when you make a mistake, change your mind or don't meet your own expectations.

Would you speak that way to someone you deeply loved?

Self-love isn't never being disappointed in yourself. It's refusing to abandon yourself when you are.

Come Back to Yourself

Self-love isn't a destination you finally reach.

It's a relationship you continue building—with your needs, your boundaries, your body, your dreams and every version of yourself you're still getting to know.

Some days it looks like growth.

Some days it looks like softness.

And some days it simply looks like giving yourself permission to be.

Honor where you are.
